Reviving a Lost Art: The Craftsmanship behind our 'Assegai' Hands

Discover the story behind the defining aesthetic signature of the Laurent Ferrier workshops: the Assegai hands. Named after the slender African spear, these hands are designed with subtly balanced curves to capture light with remarkable intensity. But achieving their three-dimensional, vintage-inspired depth required us to do something seemingly impossible: resurrect a manufacturing technique that had virtually disappeared from modern watchmaking. In this video, we explore how a relationship of trust with Fiedler SA—and the dedication of a master machinist—allowed us to revive this traditional craftsmanship during the 2009 financial crisis.
